Managing Comments in WordPress: A Complete Guide

Comments enable users to interact with the blogger or website team, aiding in understanding audience preferences. Users can activate or deactivate comments, which are enabled by default.

a) Discussion or Comment Setting Page

1. After logging in to your WordPress, select “Settings” on the menu on the left side of the dashboard, then click the “Discussions” button.

2. Then, it applies to all your pages, posts, and others by ticking all the boxes in the Default Article Settings section before clicking the “Save Changes” button to save your settings, and you can view and reply to the discussion.

b) How to enable or disable comment

1. First, select “Pages” on the menu on the left side of the dashboard, then click the “All Pages” button and select any one of the pages you want to add a comment to it.

2. Then, click the drop-down option on the top right.

3. After that, check the Discussions and Comments box.

4. Next, there are two checkboxes: allow comments and allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page.

  • Allow comments: Allow your viewers to add comments to your posts.
  • Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page: Viewers can ping and quote.

5. Finally, click the Update button to update your post.

c) How to edit comment

1. First, select “Comments” on the menu on the left side of the dashboard, then select a comment and click the Edit button to edit comments.

2. Then, you can edit the comment here and then click the Update button to update your status.

d) How to change comment moderation settings

1. First, select “Settings” on the menu on the left side of the dashboard, then click the “Discussions” button to change comment moderation settings.

2. After that, you scroll down the page a little bit, and you’ll see the following option above. Then, check the option Comment must be manually approved before clicking the “Save Changes” button to save your settings.

e) How to allow only registered users to Comment

1. First, select “Settings” on the menu on the left side of the dashboard, then click the “General” button to allow only registered users to comment on your post.

2. Then, check the box Anyone can register on the Membership part. If you don’t want a new user to write posts on your site, then save the column New user Default Role as Subscriber.

3. Next, select “Settings” on the menu on the left side of the dashboard, then click the “Discussions” button.

4. Then, check the box Users must be registered and logged in to comment.

5. Finally, click the “Save Changes” button to save your settings, and you can allow only registered users to comment on your post.

f) How to receive notification for comment

1. First, select “Settings” on the menu on the left side of the dashboard, then click the “Discussions” button to receive notifications.

2. Then, check the boxes under Email me Whenever to enable notifications.

3. Finally, click the “Save Changes” button to save your settings, and you can receive notifications from other people.
