Efficient Virtualization Setup: A Guide to Installing Hyper-V on Windows

Microsoft Hyper-V, also known as Windows Server Virtualization, is a native hypervisor that creates virtual machines on x86-64 systems running Windows operating systems, replacing Windows Virtual PC in the client version of Windows NT.

a) How do I install Hyper-V on Windows Server 2012 ?

1. First, navigate to Server Manager, select Manage, and then click on the Add Roles and Features button.

2. Then, click Next.

3. After that, select the role-based or feature-based installation and click Next.

4. Next, we will install the Hyper-V role locally by selecting a server from the server pool, and then click Next.

5. After that, select the Hyper-V server role from the list of roles, click Add Features in the pop-up window, and then click Next.

6. Then, click Next.

7. After that, select the physical network adapter for which your server will participate in virtualization and be responsible for network switching, then click Next.

8. Next, keep the default settings under the Migration section and click Next.

9. Then, select the path where you want to save the file and click Next.

10. Finally, click Install and wait for the installation bar to complete.

b) How do I install Hyper-V on a Windows 10 workstation ?

1. First, make sure hardware virtualization support is turned on in the BIOS settings.

2. Then, type “turn windows features on or off” in the search bar and click on it.

3. Finally, select and enable Hyper-V.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

c) How do I create a virtual machine with Hyper-V ?

1. First, navigate to Server Manager and click on Hyper-V Manager.

2. Then, click the New on the left panel or Action button.

3. After that, double-click on the virtual machine.

4. Next, a new table will appear, allowing you to input the name of the new computer and click Next.

5. Then, a new table will be opened for memory allocation, but it is important to remember that you cannot select more than you actually have.

6. After that, select your physical network adapter in the Connection drop-down box and click Next.

7. Next, create a virtual hard disk; if you already have one, choose the second option.

8. Then, select the ISO image to be installed and click Finish.

9. After that, it will display a message.

10. Next, right-click on the created machine and click Connect to connect to the virtual machine.

11. Finally, the installation of the ISO will proceed.
