cPanel FAQs: Answers to Common Questions

1. Database

a) Why can’t I connect to my database?

2. Domain Name System (DNS)

a) Where do I change my DNS settings?

You can try to find and solve it on the cPanel Zone Editor feature page because it allows users to create, edit, and delete Domain Name System (DNS) zone records, which convert human-readable domain names into computer-readable IP addresses. This feature is useful for resolving DNS-related issues, as DNS relies on existing server zone records to map domain names to IP addresses.

b) How do I update MX records?

You can try to find and solve it on the cPanel Zone Editor  feature page because it allows updating MX records. You can also set specific values through the interface below:

  • Priority: The email server for a domain is identified by a value in each MX record, determining the order of other mail servers using it, with lower values indicating higher priority. A value of 0 indicates the highest priority.
  • Destination: The email server must have a fully qualified domain name (FQDN).

3. Domains

a) How do I transfer my domain name?

  • Transfer your domain name from one registrar to another: Please contact your hosting provider or our technical support from the new domain registrar.
  • Transfer hosted content from one server to another: To transfer an account, you need to gain root-level access using the su or sudo command or contact our technical support. You can also find more information on the cPanel Transfer Tool page.

4. Server

a) How do I increase the disk quota?

b) How do I renew my SSL?

c) How do I renew AutoSSL?

d) What are AutoSSL email notifications?

If your hosting provider or our technical support has AutoSSL notifications enabled, you will receive an email when an AutoSSL certificate is generated or renewed for your domain. You can also find more information in the cPanel SSL/TLS status page.

5. Email

a) How do I access my webmail account?

Access cPanel’s email account interface by going to Home > Email > Email Accounts. Then, find your email account and click the “Check Email” button. You can find more information on the cPanel Webmail page.

b) How can I prevent receiving spam emails?

You can find more information on the cPanel Spam Filter page because it allows you to configure settings for their accounts, identify, classify, or delete spam. You can also use the spam button in Roundcube to train the system to recognize spam.

c) Why can’t I configure my email client?

  • Port 25 is closed: The port must be open for email sending and receiving, and you should contact your hosting provider or our technical support for help.
  • The mail client is incorrectly configured: You can find more information on the cPanel Mail Client page to check your mail client configuration.
  • SPF/DKIM is configured incorrectly: You can find more information on the cPanel Email Deliverability page to update your SPF/DKIM settings.

  • Invalid HELO: The /etc/mailhelo file configures Exim’s HELO command, initiating a conversation between mail server and client and controlling the domain from which commands are sent. You can find more information on the cPanel MailHelo file page.
  • Exim queue is full: You can find more information on the cPanel Exim Queue page or contact your hosting provider or our technical support to clear your queue or delete specific messages.

d) Why am I unable to send and receive emails and how can I troubleshoot the issue?

There could be various reasons why you are unable to send or receive emails.
  • Invalid SSL certificate: Your SSL certificate has expired.
  1. If you purchased an SSL certificate, you can use the SSL/TLS interface, which allows users to install and manage SSL certificates and private keys, enhancing website security. It also generates signing requests for certificate providers before issuing a certificate.
  2. If your hosting provider issued you an SSL certificate, contact your hosting provider.
  3. If your provider has enabled the SSL/TLS Status interface on your cPanel account , you can view, upgrade, or renew your domain’s SSL certificate.
  • Invalid ports: You can find more information on the cPanel Firewall page to enable cPanel to accept incoming or outgoing data, and certain ports must be open.

  • Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol not supported: The mail client does not support TLSv1.2 or higher, while cPanel and WHM only support TLSv1.2 or higher, with the system default enabling TLSv1.2.
